HARRIET

Harriet on the right, with her new best friend Wallace

Things are going fabulously with Harriet!  She was gold all the way home
from Yarmouth.

Harriet has made herself completely at home.  In fact, her very
first night, we had her bed set up in the bedroom, on the floor next to
our bed.  I thought she'd be too small to get up on the bed.  Wallace is
quite spring-y, but with her short little legs, we didn't think she'd
make it.  So she started to nest in her bed for the night and watched us,
and then Wallace, hop up into bed and she thought,  "Excuuuuuuuse me??"
And she hopped right up, head on our pillows, belly up to the sky, and
slept all night!

The two of them get along famously.  In fact, one of my friends thought
it was too bad we didn't know more about Harriet, if on the odd chance
they might actually be from the same litter.  They play hard and they
sleep hard, and they do it all together!  I attached a few pics of them
curled up.  And oh, Harriet will put Wallace in his place.  She's
established herself as the Alpha Dog... and he knows it.... he just
doesn't want to fully accept it yet!

She's been an absolute doll so far, and the perfect addition to the
family for both Craig & I, and Wallace!  Thank you so much for all your
help!!

Hello Yarmouth SPCA!

I have a wonderful update on my pooch Max!  I adopted him in April 2010
when he was only 9 weeks old.  He lives a very happy life with a lake
in his backyard and the ocean across the street.  We've gone to
obedience school together and passed with honors!  He loves all people
young and old.  He loves all animals and tries to make friends with
everything!

I'm very proud to announce that Max is now a celebrity! We
are the new faces of Nova Scotia Tourism!  Max and I can be found on
page 10 of the Nova Scotia Doers and Dreamers travel guidebook for
2011, the NS facebook page, and the tourism plan 2011.

Adopting a pet in need of a home is a wonderful thing! I found a superstar from your
shelter. We're so thankful we found each other! Life is great!

Thanks Yarmouth SPCA!

ELLIE

webassets/Ellie.jpg

Hi,

In November 2009, we drove from Lower Sackville to Yarmouth to adopt Ellie, a lab/border collie mix from your shelter.  Just wanted to update you on Ellie's life!

We coined Ellie a "work in progress".  While she was a very sweet dog,  she was nervous, super excitable, and had no leash manners what so ever when we brought her home.  A year and a bit later, she is relaxed, laid back, has learned a variety of commands and tricks, and I am happy to say, is progressing very nicely on the leash!  She is very loved by us, especially our girls Hannah and Allison.  She has truly become a member of our family.  We have never seen a dog who loves to cuddle and craves affection like Ellie.  She gets lots of both here!  I am attaching a few pictures so you can see how beautifully she has developed.

I think Ellie feels that she has found the perfect "forever home".

Thanks,
Heather Geldart

PS, the photo of Ellie running beside the sled is one of my favorites!  She looks so happy and full of life.  It really shows her personality!

MOJO

I got Mojo from you 15 years ago.  She has been a wonderful loving friend to me.  She is getting slow but still loves to go outside in the summertime and garden with me.  She has brought so much joy to me over the years and is loved by my grandchildren.... Brenda O'Connell

UPDATE ON MACEY

webassets/MaceyDecember10.jpg

I just wanted to let you know that I've been here for over a year now and it just keeps getting better all the time.  I have three big sisters to play with and a mommy and daddy who love me very much.  I get to go all sorts of places and everybody is always so friendly to me.  Sometimes we go to grandma's house and I get to run all over the house and she even bakes me little bone shaped cookies.  I get tons of cuddles and kisses, I think my mommy enjoys that as much as I do.  We go for a walk almost every day, sometimes I wear my rain suit and sometimes I just wear a sweater.  I have a snowsuit too that I might get to wear soon.  I am so happy and I have so much fun every single day.  Thank you for finding me my furrever home.  My mom and dad waited a long time for me and they tell me everyday how special I am and how happy they are that I'm here with them.
My mom helped me attach some pictures.  One of me and one of me with my sisters, all of whom were adopted from the TLC Animal Shelter in Digby.  Tyke (14) is the black & white beagle mix, she's the senior of the family.  Then there is Kricket the beagle who is 10 and the most recent addition is Lexi (3), nobody knows for sure but they think she might share some poodle genes with me.
Merry Christmas,
Love Macey Edwards

SOOKIE & DRESDAN

webassets/SookieDessdanandBenny.jpg

Hi everyone

We just want to let you know that our two kitties we adopted a week
ago are doing fabulous. We expected an adjustment period but there
really was none - they fit into our family immediately. Our pug Benny
just loves them and thinks they are his. He licks them and they lick
back. They are finding their own special spots in the house and it is
so nice to come home and be greeted by them. It is great for Ben too
as he loves the company when we are working or not at home. Just
wanted you to know that they have found their "fur" ever home and we
love them to bits.

The oldest one was called "Sparkles" at the Shelter. But we have named
her Sookie now. And the little guy we call Dresdan. As you can see
Dresdan loves to cuddle on your neck and fall asleep and Sookie is
just the most loveable good natured cat we've ever seen.

Thank you for our "new" family.

BUDDY

webassets/Romeo.jpg

Hey There! I just wanted to let you know that "Romeo" is doing fine.
We renamed him Buddy.  He is exactly what we were looking for and we
are very happy that we got him.  We were able to train him very well.
He is still sleeping in his crate but he is very good.  We love him
very much.  He loves to chew and play fetch.  Steven taught him how to
fetch and now its his favorite thing.  And as for the walking part.
This morning we walked the driveway and he walked next to Steven
without the leash.  It's amazing.
So we are doing very good!

CHESTNUT

webassets/Chestnut.jpg

I just wanted to tell you how very happy we are with "Mittens".....He
has fit into our home so beautifully. He has been very content; right
from the start and we couldn't be happier with him. He has made fast
friends with our other cats. He has been playing with his new toys,
spending hours in the bay windows, playing hide and go seek with his
new friends, cuddling up to our toy poodle and napping in all sorts of
places....sometimes just passing out with his favorite mouse toy in
his paws...lol If you didn't know better you'd think he had been here
since he was a kitten. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all
the time that you spent insuring that we adopted the exactly right pet
for us!

I am sending a couple of pics of our dear "Chestnut".....He already
has won all of our hearts and even has a Grammie who just adores
him....
It's so very important to have an animal shelter for these beautiful
animals and you guys all do a fantastic job.

Best Wishes
Rachelle and the Tuepah Family

NORAH

webassets/Norah.jpg

I adopted Norah (known as Lacey while she lived at the shelter) back
in February and have been meaning to write to you ever since. When I
snapped these photos of her "just chill'n" I thought I have to send
these to the SPCA and let her friends know how well she's doing.

My biggest concern about bringing a cat home was my two dogs. I
thought we would have at least a few weeks of adjusting but Norah was
only here for 15 minutes when she swatted each of the dogs on the nose
(with no claws out) as if to say "I have claws and I know how to use
them". The dogs backed away and there has never been a problem since.
Now the dogs even snuggle with her and she rubs up under their chins.

Norah has her own bedroom 8 months of the year (while my daughter is
at university), complete with pink duvet, fluffy pillows and a fan in
the window. We call her "the princess" because we think she's so
special and because she's such a sweet little girl. She helps me to
destress, she's taught me to sit down and relax and just listen to her
purr.

When I brought Norah home I really felt like I was doing her a favour.
Now I realize I've been repaid a thousand fold. Thank you all for all
you do to connect pets and people... the world is a better place
because of all of you at the SPCA.

Sincerely,
Janet Watson

LOUIE

webassets/LouieHennigar.jpg

Our family is so lucky to have discovered Louie through the SPCA.  We are truly enjoying him.  He's sweet and gentle, playful and smart.  It's a great joy to watch him discover new things (including the local wildlife) and he seems to be so appreciative of any attention.  He is small in size, but, large in spirit.  He warms our hearts each day.  Thank you SPCA!

MAX

webassets/Max.jpg

Here's an update on our beautiful chocolate lab, “Buster”---now “Max”--who we adopted from you last fall.

Max is the perfect fit for our other 3 females. He rounds them out even more beautifully than I might have imagined. He’s a gentle, loving, darling, who keeps the girls calm—especially Ginger (our Stumpy Tale Cattle Dog found starving on the streets of Texas)--who was smitten by Max from the moment he entered the house, and followed the poor guy around non-stop for a month.

He is definitely the “king” of the household, and clearly sees it as his duty to protect (and legislate) everything that happens around the house.

He shows his love with “nose nibbles”, sloppy kisses, and the ability to lift his upper lip into a grin revealing his upper teeth—it’s screamingly funny. We absolutely love him, and I cannot imagine our lives without him.

COOPER

webassets/Cooper.jpg

We are so pleased to have Cooper.  He is a good dog and is so loving. He is such a sweet boy. He can sit and stay, will wait on command, will go down sometimes, and is walking well on leash. He is such a snuggle bum, he sleeps right up on our pillows! I hope all of your future adoptions work out as well as this one.

We love him lots. Amy Kris and Kenzie

CLARISSE

webassets/Clarisse.jpg

My name for a time was Kaci
I’m now called Clarisse for you see
I have found a new home
Now I don’t need to roam
I’ve lots of food and a sister Daisy

Daisy wasn’t quite sure what to do
The first time I came into view
She had a long face
Thought I’d taken her place
But now knows there’s enough room for two

I simply can’t thank you enough
Though my life started out pretty rough
From your care and concern
My life’s taken a turn
And I’m learning the meaning of love

MAGGIE

webassets/Maggie.jpg

webassets/Maggie.jpg

Maggie came into our lives on January 22nd, 2010 when we came all the way from Bridgewater to adopt her. We fell in love with her face on-line and knew we had to add her to our pack.  Maggie proved to be a challenge when we got her home, she saw that we had three cats and she quickly let us know that she was going to do what a beagle does best and hunt them.  Nearly three weeks later we have made great progress in rehabilitating Maggie, she is quickly becoming a beautiful, happy and healthy beagle.

Her two older brothers have embraced her and love to play with her, as you can see from the pictures she is settling in beautifully.  The second is a picture of all three of them, Jasper, Gunther & Maggie with their knit blankets mom made for them.

Thank you to the SPCA in Yarmouth for taking care of her until she found her forever home.

Relaxing

 Bird Watching

Big Boy, who was known in the shelter as Wow because of his distinct "meow", has been adopted into a loving home on a large acreage, where he can relax and enjoy the scenery.

His mother says, "he likes his new home and is so content and we just love him so.   Big boy has a new sister named Raggs and she is a Llapsa and they are getting to know one another.  Be assured  Big Boy has a good home  and people who love him."  "Our wish would be that all the animals in the world would be safe ---my husband being a farmer all his life, has helped us feel that way."

Thanks,

Marsha &Leslie

BUDDY

webassets/Buddy.jpg

Buddy has found his way into our hearts and everyone who has met him really likes him.  When we visited him at the shelter he seemed special and when you said he was such a good dog, you were absolutely right.  We took him to the beach and let him off of his leash so he could run freely.  He loved it and we found out that he can be excited and energetic!  Boy, can he run!  And he loves water too.

Our cats are realizing that this new furry creature in their house is not going to bother them and so they are adjusting and becoming used to his presence. The only time Buddy barks is if someone, including us, comes in the door and then as soon as he sees that it is "just a person" coming in, he stops and comes over to greet us/them.  He is enjoying his new yard and his new house and chew toys and squeaky toy.  It was pretty funny last evening as I decided to lay on the floor by Buddy and he laid there for a minute then stood up and stared at the sofa, slowly lifted a paw onto the sofa, and then another, and very quietly jumped up and laid himself down.  I laughed and said to Sean, "What's wrong with this picture?  I'm on the floor and the dog's on the couch!"  It was too cute!!

He is such a calm, loving and loyal companion to us.  When we are out for our walks everyone admires him.  He doesn't seem too excited about snow though.  I thought that being part Husky he would love playing in it.  He'd rather be inside playing with his toys or curled up having a nice, warm nap.

SHADY

webassets/Shady.jpg

We adopted Shady on Dec. 9 and thought we would let you know that he is doing really well in his new home.  He is still adjusting to our dog, who loves to bath our cats, but Shady isn't too sure about that yet.  He has taken a real liking to our bed, where he gets to relax on our feather pillows. At night he tries to push us off the pillows.

KHOJA

webassets/Khoja.jpg

Khoja a wonderful, gentle cat.  He still doesn't like to be held for very long, but he's very affectionate in his way.  He has become more playful as time has passed, but as you see from the picture, sleeping is his favourite activity.

MACEY

webassets/Macey.jpg

webassets/Macey2.JPG

Can I tell you what a perfect little dog she is?  Almost daily I comment that I just can't understand how she could have ended up at the SPCA.  She is just the best and sooo much fun to have around.  I take her a lot of places with me and she loves everybody and all other animals.  She curls up with the cats here quite often.  Right now she is playing with her favorite toy, a sheep that's pretty much the same size as her (they kinda look alike).  The picture is her on the sleeping bag.  She loved camping and couldn't wait to get her furry little butt in that sleeping bag, even rolled up she wouldn't stay off of it.

Thanks,
Sonia

SASHA & CHARLOTTE

webassets/SashaCharlotte.jpg

We adopted "Sasha & Charlotte" a short time ago ago and they have been a perfect fit to our home....it seems as if they have been part of our family for a long time.  Of course, for the first couple of days they were quite nervous but now they are both very comfortable and happy here.  Thanks so much for letting us have them in our lives.  We go to bed every night now with a symphony of purring all around us as they already like to sleep with us.

Sincerely,
Kim, Paul & Emily

CHARLIE

Charlie.jpg

Hello to all you wonderful folks at the Yarmouth SPCA,

Chris and I adopted a beautiful 15 month old German Shepherd from you recently and we wanted to send you a note to tell you how Charlie is doing! It seems like Charlie has adjusted very well. He enjoys spending time with our two other dogs Chester (Golden Retriever) and Zoey (Shepherd/Rottweiler Mix)
As you may remember Charlie is quite a handful on a leash! We have discovered that if we take him outside with our other two dogs he can go off leash with no problems! When the other two are called in Charlie follows as a willing participant.

We have started obedience training Charlie and are currently working on the ‘stay’,‘come’ and ‘leave it’ commands. He is also learning that he will not receive food from the table as we believe he may have had his share of table scraps in the past.

Charlie loves coming for drives in the car and recently we took all three dogs down to Parrsboro for Charlie to meet and visit with family. He loves going for long walks on old four wheeler trails and he is hard to keep out of the water! Our Chester also loves the water and is delighted to have a buddy to go puddle swimming with!
Thank you again for the beautiful dog – we hope you enjoyed the update!

Love,
Chris, Jenn and the rest of the animal kingdom!

MILLIE

webassets/Millie.jpg

Millie is so very precious to me, she`s my big baby and she`s treated like a queen, like she should be.  She is so very happy and its not hard to see how happy she is now.  She has no problem with jumping up on you when she wants you to pat her.  She lays on my lap and purrs and goes to sleep.  If I get up during the night she follows me until I go to bed.  I hope the other cats and kitties enjoyed the food we brought for them.  Its a thank you from Millie and all of us.  Again thank you so much for approving me to bring her home, she was a perfect match.  I love her completely... she is my baby not my pet, to me she is like one of my kids I just love her so much.

CROSBY

Jay.jpg

Hello to all my friends at the shelter:

I am writing to give you an update on my new digs.  We drove a long way, from Yarmouth to Lawrencetown and I was very comfortable in the back of my new Mom's car.  She put the back seats forward and put a blanket for me on the floor.  When we got to my new home, my new Dad was there to greet me.  He thinks I am a fine handsome guy and likes me very much.  I had an accident in my new home but nobody got mad at me because they understood that I was very excited and scared.  I don't think I will do that again.  I was very embarressed!

I like my forever home and my people treat me good.  Across the street from us is a cow pasture and I would like to go over there and keep them all togeather but my Mom says that I can't go out alone until I go to school and learn proper manners.  I am excited about that.

My  Dad gave me a new name, he says that it is now Crosby.  There is a human that he admires and thats his name. So when they say 'come Crosby'.....thats me and I come running.

My Mom made an appointment with the groomer to have me bathed and groomed......whatever that is.  I know it will be fun because we have a lot of fun togeather.
Thank you for taking me in and finding me a good forever home. I am One Lucky Dog.

Sincerely,
Crosby
